The Akai MPX8 is a mobile SD sample player that allows a user to load virtually any sample via standard SD or SDHC card and assign it to any of the MPX8’s eight backlit velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads. This article walks through triggering samples on the MPX8 with an external MIDI controller.
Connect the MIDI Output of your MIDI controller or MIDI interface to the MIDI Input on the MPX8 using the supplied 1/8" to 9 pin MIDI connector.
Make sure that your MIDI controller or software is set to output on CH 10. If you are unsure of how to do this, consult the reference manual for your controller or software. This step is very important, as the MPX8 will only accept messages from MIDI CH10.
Playing these notes on a controller or from software will thus trigger the corresponding pads on the MPX8.
